The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.
Our Community:
Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our “backyard” is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

Sultan School District is seeking applicants for an Athletic and Youth Programs Director for the 2024-2025 school year. The Athletic and Youth Programs Director is responsible for the development, oversight, management, and coordination of all athletic programs and youth programs within the school district. This individual ensures compliance with district policies, state regulations, and athletic association guidelines while fostering a positive and inclusive environment for student participation and development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program Management:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate athletic and youth programs in alignment with district goals and objectives which are aimed at engaging children from the local community.
- Work with coaches to coordinate scheduling of practices, games, competitions, and events for all sports teams and
- youth program activities.
- Ensure facilities, equipment, and resources are adequate and well-maintained to support program needs.
- Schedules and manages transportation to away events.
- Assist coaches and activity supervisors in administration of sports; meet with coaches to discuss concerns; resolve problems.
- Manages all aspects of building’s games and events (i.e. security support staff, officials, equipment set up and take down, ticket money management, tournaments, etc.)
- Staff Supervision and Development:
- Determine coaching needs in building. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate coaches, advisors, and other personnel involved in athletic and youth programs.
- Provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to staff to enhance coaching techniques, leadership skills, and program effectiveness.
- Attend a mix of practices and games to effectively evaluate program direction and leadership.
- Compliance and Regulations:
- Stay abreast of state regulations, athletic association rules, and safety guidelines to ensure compliance across all athletic and extracurricular activities.
- Oversee eligibility requirements, student athlete registrations, physical exams, and other administrative processes.
- Maintains and manages record keeping system for physicals, athletic codes and student contact information.
- Manages distribution of rosters with the league
- Develop a compliance system of checks and balances for each program and all coaches.
- Is responsible for recommending and implementing changes to insure safe practices and participation in district athletics, activities, and health and fitness programs.
- Initiates investigation of violations regarding league, District, WIAA, or building athletic code and provides a timely report to the Administrator.
- Work with the District’s Title IX Officer to ensure compliance with board policy.
- Act as the District’s liaison to the athletic league and to the WIAA.
- Manages appeals to WIAA.
- Meets with coaches before each season to review rules, regulations, and policies of all WIAA groups (i.e., school district, league, district and state). Reinforce district values, standards, and ethics.
- Budgeting and Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the annual budget for the athletics and activities department, including expenditures for equipment, uniforms, transportation, and facilities.
- Monitor financial transactions, fundraising activities, and revenue generation efforts to maintain fiscal responsibility and accountability.
- Work with all stakeholders to put in motion a financial plan that is responsible and attainable.
- Community Engagement:
- Foster positive relationships with students, parents, coaches, staff, community members, and local organizations to promote collaboration and support for athletic and extracurricular programs.
- Cultivate partnerships with local businesses, sponsors, and donors to support athletic and youth programs.
- Acts as the liaison between booster clubs and school administration
- Communicate effectively through various channels (e.g., meetings, newsletters, social media) to provide updates, share accomplishments, and solicit input from stakeholders.
- Develop a K-12 program focusing on athletics with skill development as a centerpiece of the culture.
- Enforces crowd control and all rules/regulations required for safe competition.
- Student Support and Development:
- Prioritize the well-being, academic success, and personal growth of student athletes and participants.Promote and foster student participation in school athletics.
- Promote sportsmanship, character development, and teamwork through educational initiatives, leadership opportunities, and mentorship programs.
- Create a culture and expectation of student athlete development for all.
- Be visible around campus and provide supervision when needed during school hours.
- Work with administration and staff to enhance positive school climate/culture, with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
- Previous experience in coaching, athletic administration, or related roles within a school setting.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in athletics and extracurricular activities.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and adapt to changing priorities and situations.
- Ability to coordinate successful community relations.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective management strategies.
- Ability to exercise sensitivity in dealing with individuals of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cognitive and physical abilities as well as with individuals of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

- Must have, or obtain, Authorization to Transport Students
- Blood Bourne Pathogen training and First Aid CPR with AED certification, both provided at hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and supplies as needed.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to support athletic events and activities.
