GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF A CLASSIFIED WORKER: The substitute classified worker will work on an on-call basis under the direction and supervision of a building or office manager. 

 

Substitute Classified Workers perform the duties of regular classified staff members who are temporarily away from their assignment.

 

Substitute employees work on an on-call basis at various district sites with no guarantee of daily work hours.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR MAINTENANCE:

  • Installs, modifies, maintains and repairs interior wiring and cables, connections for electric machines, switches and controls, fuse boxes, breaker panels, distribution and instrument panels, buzzer and bell circuits, public address and power circuits.
  • Installs, adjusts, maintains and repairs electric motors, equipment and instruments such as pumps, clocks, lamps, stoves, timers, fans, elevators and power tools.
  • Inspects electric systems and equipment to detect and correct faulty or worn parts.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs pipes, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, lavatories, sinks, water coolers and valves.
  • Repairs fixtures in shop by refacing, repacking and reseating valves, cutting and threading pipe, bending pipe, replacing pump bushings and washers, and testing valves and other pressure equipment.
  • Inspects, maintains and repairs a variety of water mains, fixtures, sewer lines, valves, plumbing, heater, water, cooling, refrigeration and other systems and parts.
  • Prepares and cleans surfaces by use of sandpaper, burners, scrapers, sanding machines, dusters and paint removers.
  • Installs and repairs locks, weather stripping, brackets for mirrors and draperies, linoleum, tile, gutters and down spouts.
  • Repairs farm, automotive, kitchen, laundry and shop tools and equipment, including motors, valves, electric appliances and steam equipment.
  • Prepares surfaces for welding; uses arc or acetylene welding and burning equipment.
  • Mixes and applies paints to furnishings, equipment and exterior and interior surfaces of buildings and other structures.
  • Performs glazing, paper hanging, stencil lettering and repairing of plaster, cement and marble; repairs floors, screens, windows, sashes, doors, furniture, fixtures, stairs, cupboards and roofs.
  • Uses and maintains the tools of the trades.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR GROUNDS:

  • Maintains district grounds, athletic and play fields; weeds, edges, mows, waters, fertilizes and provides a variety of grounds maintenance.
  • Performs a variety of horticultural duties; propagates and plants a variety of shrubs, trees and flowers; prunes and fertilizes; applies a variety of insecticides as need following Department of Health guidelines and performs landscaping installations and improvements.
  • Removes snow and debris from grounds as needed to maintain a safe and attractive landscape.
  • Monitors condition of grounds throughout the district, inspects and corrects a variety of conditions.
  • Monitors condition of playground equipment for safety, follows set guidelines for frequency of inspections and repairs equipment as necessary; keeps records of safety inspections.
  • Maintains and repairs a variety of groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, tractors, trucks, trimmers and hand equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of grounds supplies and equipment; informs Director of Facilities of needed supplies and replacement parts; places routine orders; drives school vehicle to pick up supplies as required.
  • Operates, cleans and maintains a variety of groundskeeping tools and equipment.
  • Secures area when mowing, spraying or performing other hazardous functions to ensure student and staff safety.
  • Maintains effective communication with students, parents, staff and the public for safety and public relations.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR A CUSTODIAN:

  • Cleans assigned district facility to provide a sanitary and safe environment for student learning and support functions; vacuums, dusts, mops, sweeps, cleans bathrooms and showers, picks up and empties trash, changes lights, removes graffiti and provides a wide variety of cleaning and custodial services.
  • Monitors heating unit for the school building to provide warmth for student learning and support functions; keeps Maintenance Department up-to-date on any heating/cooling issues.
  • Opens and/or locks building doors for security according to established procedures.
  • Sets up and takes down a wide variety of equipment and furniture for events, assemblies, public use of school facilities and other functions; moves a variety of equipment and furniture as needed to meet the needs of students, staff and the public.
  • Assists teachers, students and administrators in locating needed equipment and providing emergency cleaning.
  • Maintains effective communication with building administrator, Director of Facilities, students, parents, staff and the public for safety, security and public relations.
  • Maintains building safety and security by checking locks and alarms; notes and reports needed repairs or other safety or security risks.
  • Performs routine repairs to furniture, doors, walls and other minor maintenance items; performs limited carpentry, painting and plumbing to maintain the facility as needed.
  • Responds to building maintenance work orders as directed.

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR TECHNOLOGY:

  • Troubleshoots and resolves minor Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity issues, server problems and hardware, software, and/or configuration problems.
  • Upgrades and installs network computer hardware and software
  • Maintain and install network infrastructure hardware and software.
  • Building new servers, server maintenance, and scheduling server down time.
  • Performs network maintenance tasks such as backups, statistical reports, file restoration and equipment replacement.
  • Assists end users with server issues to include diagnosing problems related to servers and networking.
  • Maintains technology equipment in working condition.
  • Distributes and installs technology equipment.
  • Provides telephone and on-site support for hardware and software used in the district.
  • Conduct technology training in the use of a variety of software and hardware.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent

On-line Safe Schools Training (provided by the district)
