BASIC FUNCTION: Substitute teachers work on an on-call basis, performing the duties of, and implementing the instructional programs of the District in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In the role of substitute classroom teacher, assist with the learning experience of the pupils in both curricular and co-curricular activities in relationship to the goals of the District.
- As a substitute teacher, provide guidance to pupils to promote their welfare and proper educational development.
- As a substitute teacher, assist in maintaining adequate and careful records as required by the Principal and the Superintendent or his/her designee.
- Substitute classroom teachers may be asked to participate in staff meetings and in-service training programs as are scheduled.
- A substitute classroom teacher may be asked to provide adequate reports to parents on the progress ad adjustments of pupils.
- In the absence of the regular classroom teacher the substitute shall provide for the care of school property and see that pupils use supplies, equipment, and utilities properly.
- As a substitute classroom teacher you may be asked to assist with co-curricular and other duties beyond regular classroom activities.
- Maintain cordial and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and participate in the business and activities of the facility.
- Administer the classroom and its programs, including discipline, and provide leadership for pupils in developing good citizenship.
- Adhere to the policies, operating procedures and practices as established by the Board, District and Building Principal.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Washington State Teacher Certificate with K-12 endorsement
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to define excellence by standards of performance
- Knows and applies quality classroom based assessment practices
- Proven success and skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide variety of people
- Proven classroom management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching strategies
- On-line Safe Schools Training (provided by the district)
WORKING CONTIDIONS: The duties associated with this position are generally performed in a classroom setting. You must have the ability to deal with a wide range of physical as well as environmental conditions related to the age and abilities of the assigned students. Position requires alertness and safety awareness. May require some lifting, positioning and/or restraining of students; standing, sitting, or kneeling for long periods of time (duration is dependent on the age and physical abilities of assigned students). |
