Our District:
The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.

Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our “backyard” is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

Job Summary:
The Assistant Coach will assist with the athletic program. The assistant coach will assist with the organization and supervision of the program including budgeting, ordering, inventory, player supervision, awards, team rosters, and equipment management.
Position requires the coach to perform duties assigned by the Head Coach and/or the Athletic Director which involve managing the sport program duties to include providing instruction and experiences for students to help prepare them mentally and physically for athletic competition, as well as to enhance their personal, physical and social growth and development in a multi-ethnic environment.
Essential Job Functions:
This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
- Assist with organization and supervision of the program including budgeting, ordering, inventory, player supervision, awards, team rosters, and equipment management.
- Participate in athletic registrations
- Help with issuing and care of sports equipment during and after season
- May help compile eligibility lists and other reports
- Perform related duties as assigned

- Working knowledge of specific sport fitness, safety methods, and techniques

Special Requirements::
- Successful coaching experience in appropriate sport
- Continuing Education Standards – 30 hours prior to the 3rd season of coaching for new coaches and 15 hours every three years thereafter
- Must have excellent moral character
- Must have excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Valid/current CPR/1st Aid card maintained for the duration of this job
- Type II Driver’s License or willingness and ability to obtain
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
- I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
- Sexual Harassment Training (obtain prior to season starting – district provided)
- Safe Schools trainings (obtain prior to season starting – district provided)
Work Environment:
Work is typically performed outdoors; requires substantial extra-hours work, travel between sites, stamina and endurance, and physical exertion associated with demonstrating techniques; must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather; may be required to balance, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods; may be exposed to high noise levels and childhood diseases; and may experience a multitude of demands and changing priorities with frequent interruptions.
Evaluation:
The Assistant Coach shall be evaluated within 20 days of the close of the sports season by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include an evaluation of the employee’s performance of the above essential job functions.

Immigration Reform and Control Act Requirement:
The recommended applicant, if not a current employee, will be required to complete an INS I-9 form and must provide proof of employment eligibility.
Disclosure Statement and Background Check
Pursuant to Chapter 43.43, Washington Laws of 1990, the recommended applicant will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating whether he/she has been convicted of crimes against persons listed in the law. In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol.
